We build sewer connection pipes from €25/m, pump out and decommission old septic tanks, and install and service BIO plants where a connection is not possible. Describe your situation in your request, and we will contact you within 5 minutes of your request.
The Cohesion Fund network in Berģi and €1,800 support
Berģi is one of five neighbourhoods where a separate municipal programme applies to connections to the networks of phases 5 and 6 of the project “Water Management Development in Riga”; the other four are Imanta, Beberbeķi, Teika and Ziepniekkalns. It covers design costs in set amounts and grants €1,800 for construction work. For people with Group I or II disability, needy and low-income households, members of large families and some other groups, the construction work can be covered in full.
The most important thing is the deadline: construction work must be completed by 31 December 2026, and the application to Rīgas ūdens (Riga's water utility) must be submitted by 1 April 2027. Rīgas ūdens says the process, including approvals, usually takes 4–6 months. If you don't have technical conditions yet, first ask Rīgas ūdens whether you can still get into this programme and which support applies to you.

How to decide: connect or keep your own system
| Situation | What we usually recommend |
|---|---|
| The network is in your street; old concrete-ring septic tank or holding tank | Connect: the pumping costs end, and part of the work is covered by the support |
| Network in the street; BIO plant a few years old and serviced | Compare the maintenance costs with the price of the connection pipe; if the pipe is long, work out both options |
| House lower than the street sewer main | Connection with a pump station (unit from €1,650) |
| No network in the street and none planned | A septic tank with infiltration or a BIO plant, to suit the soil |
National rules required a system that does not meet the requirements to be connected to the mains sewer if the sewer is in the adjacent street; the deadline was the end of 2023. In Riga, connection is mandatory for a new build if a connection pipe has already been built up to the plot boundary.
What we do on connection work in Berģi
- Inspection We locate the house's sewer outlet and the Rīgas ūdens control manhole (it is 1.5–2 m from the street's red line) and measure the length and fall.
- Connection pipe A trench, pipes laid at an even fall and inspection chambers at the bends; if a fall is not possible, the solution is a pump station.
- As-built survey We leave the trench open until the surveyor has measured it; after that we backfill it and restore the surface.
- The old system We pump out, clean and backfill or remove the septic tank or BIO plant. Notify the Riga Housing and Environment Department of the change within a month.
The building specialist's documents (a connection pipe location plan or an explanatory memorandum) are prepared by a designer of your choice; we coordinate the work with them. The full process: connecting to the mains sewer.
If you stay with your own system
Not every Berģi address has the network next to it, and not every owner will find that a connection pays off. In that case the system must comply with Riga's Binding Regulations No. 66: it must be registered with the Department, a septic tank must be pumped out at least once a year, and a BIO plant must be serviced according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually once a year.
If there is no network in the street, the treated water from a BIO plant needs somewhere to go: a ditch or infiltration into the ground. On the Lake Jugla side and in lower-lying spots, check the spring groundwater level before choosing; we do this during the inspection.
- Septic tank pumping in Berģi: from €75 up to 4 m³; no kilometres are charged in Riga.
- BIO plant maintenance: sludge pumping, rinsing, compressor and float checks, from €160.
- Biological treatment plants for a new house if there is no network in the street: from €1,750.
- Converting a septic tank into a BIO plant, if the old septic tank can no longer cope.
Along Brīvības gatve, and access
Berģi is a green neighbourhood of private houses by Brīvības gatve and Lake Jugla, with newer private-house developments and low-rise buildings. Along the highway there are roadside businesses; if they have a kitchen, it needs regular grease trap cleaning, while places with their own tank need pumping for businesses with documents for each visit.
The main streets allow access for a bigger tanker too, but on the forest and lake side and in the new developments the roads may be gravel or not yet finished. In your request, write whether the road will take a truck and how far the lid is from it. Nearest neighbourhoods: Jugla, Bukulti, Brekši and Suži. All places: where we work.
