By Lake Jugla and the forests there are streets of detached houses that may have a connection or a septic tank, holding tank or biological wastewater treatment plant (BIO plant). Along Brīvības gatve there are apartment estates, shops, schools and other institutions with kitchens and pumps. We serve both, and our prices are published: pumping from €75, grease trap cleaning from €90.
Detached houses by the lake: what to check before a new plant
Near the lake, groundwater can be closer to the surface than further from the shore. A drain field needs a layer of dry, free-draining soil under the drains; if there isn't one, raised infiltration or a biological treatment plant with an outlet is chosen.
Bodies of water have protection zones in which economic activity is restricted. If your plot is close to the lake shore, check the protection zone in Riga's spatial plan and the restrictions in the Land Register before digging. That decides where the tank may go and where the treated water may be discharged.
If the house is already connected to the city network but the old tank is still in the garden, it needs to be pumped out, cleaned and filled in. An abandoned tank keeps collecting rainwater and groundwater, and its lid becomes unsafe over time.
Help with choosing: septic tank installation, biological treatment plants in Jugla and drain field. If you are torn between the two types: septic tank or BIO plant.
Schools, shops and canteens: grease traps
School and kindergarten kitchens, canteens and the delis in shops cook a large number of portions every day, so the grease separator there fills up faster than in a small café. Riga's rules prohibit discharging fats and food waste into the city network, and a full separator lets them through into the pipes.
We schedule cleaning for when the kitchen is not working; for schools this may be at weekends or in the afternoon. We pump out the entire contents, clean the baffles, check the inlet and outlet and refill the separator with clean water. The certificate with the date and volume can be shown during an inspection. Grease trap cleaning in Jugla costs from €90; for several institutions on one schedule: septic tank pumping for businesses.
Housing estates and pump stations
We help property managers of apartment buildings in Jugla with what lies under the building and in the yard: sewage pump stations in basements, inspection chambers and the yard sections up to the city's control manhole. When servicing a station, we pump out the tank, clean the fat off the walls and floats and check the non-return valve, because fat on the floats and a leaking non-return valve disrupt the station's operation.
Brīvības gatve and the streets of detached houses
Brīvības gatve, the tram and the start of the regional roads make Jugla easy to reach even for a large tanker. On the streets of detached houses by the lake and the forest, the carriageway can be narrow and unsurfaced; there a smaller tanker or a longer hose comes in handy.
In your request, tell us the street surface, the width of the gate and the distance to the lid. If the lid is behind the house, describe the way to it: along a path or across a lawn, which a heavy vehicle must not drive over.
At shops, the grease trap lid may be in the car park. Then we schedule cleaning for a time when there are few cars in the car park, and we cordon off the area around the lid while we work.
Co-financing in Jugla and next door
In Jugla, Riga's general programme applies to connecting a residential house to the city sewer: support is €1,000–2,000 depending on the length of the connection pipe, and the application to Rīgas ūdens (Riga's water utility) can be submitted up to three years after construction. In neighbouring Berģi there is also the higher €1,800 programme for the Cohesion Fund phase 5 and 6 networks; if your property is near the Berģi boundary, Rīgas ūdens will tell you which programme applies to you.
While you stay with your own system, in Riga a septic tank must be emptied at least once a year, and the system must be registered with the Riga Housing and Environment Department. Registration is free of charge, and the application is processed within 30 working days.
