We pump out septic tanks and holding tanks, maintain biological wastewater treatment plants (BIO plants), install pump stations and build service pipes. After the 2021 reform, Ogre Municipality still has no new rules on decentralised sewage systems, so below we explain what is known for certain and what needs to be checked with the municipality.
Rivers, hills and the railway: what affects sewerage in Ogre
Ogre stretches along the Daugava and the Ogre river. It has apartment districts, a historic centre, detached-house areas and wooded, hilly terrain, and each of these conditions changes work on a wastewater system in its own way.
- Riverbanks. In lower-lying spots by the rivers, groundwater can rise close to the surface in spring and after heavy rain, and some areas tend to flood. A drain field then stops taking water, a septic tank fills up faster, and an empty plastic tank can lift. In such places, people more often choose a sealed holding tank or an anchored septic tank for high groundwater.
- Hills. If the house sits lower than the street sewer, a gravity pipe no longer works, and you need a sewage pump station. On a slope, the vacuum tanker can't always get close to the lid either, so the hose length and the difference in height matter.
- The railway and crossings. The town's linear layout and the railway mean that the northern and southern parts have different access routes. Give the exact address in your request so that we can plan the route via the nearest level crossing or bridge.
Rules in Ogre Municipality: what is certain and what needs checking
After the reform, Ogre, Ikšķile and Ķegums are in one Ogre Municipality, but unified municipal rules on decentralised sewage systems have not yet been adopted. The water management regulations approved in 2025 do not cover decentralised services, and their explanatory note says separate regulations will be drawn up. The municipality and its agency still refer to the former Ogre Municipality's Regulations No. 3/2020, but their legal force after the reform's transition period is unclear. So the safe basis is the national Cabinet Regulation No. 384, but check specific requirements with the municipality before the work.
| Requirement | Source | Status in Ogre |
|---|---|---|
| The system must be registered in the municipal register; changes must be reported within a month | Cabinet Regulation No. 384 | In force nationwide |
| The contents of a septic tank and holding tank must be handed over to a pumping contractor regularly, in line with water consumption and volume | Cabinet Regulation No. 384 | In force nationwide |
| A holding tank must be sealed; water from a septic tank may only reach the environment through an infiltration system | Cabinet Regulation No. 384 | In force nationwide |
| BIO plant maintenance at least once a year; a copy of the maintenance document to the register holder within a month | Cabinet Regulation No. 384 | In force unless the manufacturer's documentation says otherwise |
| The pumping document is kept for at least two years | Cabinet Regulation No. 384 | In force nationwide |
| A septic tank must be pumped out at least once a year; BIO maintenance certificate by 1 April | Ogre Binding Regulations No. 3/2020 | The agency refers to them; their legal force needs to be confirmed |
| Sludge may only be delivered to designated reception points, never into sewer manholes | Ogre Municipality Binding Regulations No. 24/2025 | In force |
In the town of Ogre and Ogresgals parish, the register is kept by the municipal agency Ogres komunikācijas. The form is on its website and can be submitted electronically, by post or in person. In Ikšķile (including Tīnūži), the register is kept by the company Ikšķiles māja, and on the Ķegums side by Ķeguma Stars.
Only a pumping contractor registered with the municipality may pump out; Ogre Municipality's list (updated on 10 February 2026) includes 11 companies. We found no co-financing for sewer connections in Ogre Municipality: the former Ķegums and Lielvārde municipalities' programmes were cancelled in 2022, and no new municipal programme has been published.

Apartment buildings, the centre and service businesses
Ogre's apartment districts and centre are usually connected to the town sewer, so the work there is different from the streets of private houses. A building manager may need pump station maintenance or pump repair if there is a lift station in the basement or courtyard, and after heavy rain near the rivers, basement pumping comes in handy.
Ogre is a regional service and retail centre, and food outlets with a kitchen need to keep an eye on their grease trap. If it isn't cleaned, grease hardens in the outlet, the pipe clogs and a smell appears. That's why it is worth planning grease trap cleaning on a schedule, rather than only once something has already gone wrong.

The price in Ogre and how to make the most of the trip
Ogre is one of the furthest places in our service area: it is about 34 km to the centre of Riga in a straight line. So travel (~€1/km outside Riga) makes up a noticeable part of the bill. We charge for the work itself according to the same price list as in Riga: pumping up to 4 m³ from €75, up to 6 m³ from €90, up to 10 m³ from €110, BIO plant maintenance from €160.
You don't have to pay for travel twice if we do everything needed at one address in one visit. For example, we pump out the septic tank and service the BIO plant, or empty both the holding tank and the drainage well. Write this in your request, and we will give you the total price before the work. Calculation examples: prices.
