Ikšķile is a separate town in Ogre Municipality, and its rules on decentralised sewage systems are currently in a state of transition, so we explain what is definitely in force. Pumping of up to 4 m³ costs from €75, and travel is added outside Riga.

Ikšķile on the Daugava: slopes, the railway and new estates

Ikšķile stretches along the Daugava, which on this stretch is the reservoir of the Riga hydroelectric power plant. The town has a historic centre, detached-house districts and newer low-rise estates, and building continues. For houses that are not connected to the network, wastewater is collected by a septic tank, a holding tank or a BIO plant.

Two things affect the work here. The first is the steep slopes in places near the river. If the house is at the bottom and the road at the top, the tanker stays at the top and the hose has to be run down the slope. The septic tank site, in turn, is chosen so that the drain field is not above a well or a neighbour's garden. The second is the railway line and the Daugava bank, which limit the routes between parts of the town, so give us the exact address and the access road in your request.

On plots close to the reservoir the groundwater can be high. There we plan septic tank installation with an anchored tank or choose a BIO plant. Near the bank there is also a surface water protection zone, so before building a new system check the spatial plan or with the building authority where it may be placed.

Which rules are in force in Ikšķile: Cabinet Regulation No. 384 as the safe basis

Since the reform, Ikšķile has been part of Ogre Municipality, but the municipality has not yet adopted common rules on decentralised sewage systems for the whole municipality. Ogre Municipality's water management Binding Regulations No. 24/2025 do not cover decentralised services, and their explanatory note says separate rules will be drawn up. The former Ikšķile Municipality's Regulations No. 21/2018 are still available on the website of SIA “Ikšķiles māja”, but their legal force after the reform's transition period is doubtful.

So you can safely rely on the national Cabinet Regulation No. 384, which applies to Ikšķile in any case:

  • the system must be registered; in Ikšķile and Tīnūži the register has so far been kept by SIA “Ikšķiles māja”, and the forms are on ikskilesmaja.lv;
  • the pumping frequency is determined by water consumption and tank volume; the old Ikšķile rules required a septic tank to be pumped at least once a year;
  • a holding tank must be sealed, while liquid from a septic tank may enter the environment only through an infiltration system;
  • a BIO plant must be serviced at least once a year, and a copy of the maintenance document is sent to the register keeper within a month (the old rules required a declaration by 1 April);
  • the pumping document showing the address, volume, date and the pumping contractor's details is kept for at least two years;
  • wastewater may be collected only by a pumping contractor registered with the municipality; the Ogre Municipality list, updated on 10.02.2026, has 11 companies.

Before submitting documents, ask Ikšķiles māja or Ogre Municipality which procedure is in force right now. That is the only way to be sure while the municipality's rules have not been adopted.

Septic tank pumping in Ikšķile: slopes and height differences

We drive to Ikšķile along the A6 through Salaspils. We charge travel at ~€1/km for the road beyond the Riga city boundary and tell you the amount together with the pumping price before the work.

A vacuum pump can lift septic tank contents only to a limited height. If the lid is down by the river but the tanker can only stand up at the street, give us both the distance and the approximate height difference in your request. That determines which hoses to bring and whether a different solution is needed.

Ogre Municipality's water management rules prohibit pouring pumped-out contents into sewer manholes; they may be delivered only to a designated reception point with which the pumping contractor has a contract. So choose a pumping contractor that issues a document for the volume removed. Only such a document proves that the system has been managed properly.

Septic tank pumping in Ikšķile costs from €90 for up to 6 m³ and from €110 for up to 10 m³. Holding tanks have the same price list: holding tank pumping.

New estates and terraced houses: BIO plants and connections

For a new house in a street without a network, people usually choose a biological treatment plant (a plant for 4–6 people from €1,750) or a septic tank with a drain field. For terraced house sections or a small estate, a shared plant can work out better: treatment plants for villages. For an existing plant: BIO plant maintenance from €160.

We found no connection co-financing in Ogre Municipality. The earlier Ķegums and Lielvārde programmes were cancelled in 2022, and there are no new ones. If there is a network in the street, we build the connection pipe (from €25/m) and, if the house is lower than the network, a pump station at price-list rates. How it works: connecting to the mains sewer.

Frequently asked questions

Who accepts septic tank registration in Ikšķile?

Until now, the register in Ikšķile and Tīnūži has been kept by SIA “Ikšķiles māja”, and the forms are on its website. As Ogre Municipality's common rules are still being drawn up, make sure the recipient has not changed before you submit.

How often does a septic tank in Ikšķile need pumping?

The old Ikšķile rules required at least once a year, and that matches practice too. A holding tank is pumped out as often as it fills up. The calculation: how often to pump a septic tank.

The house is down by the Daugava. Will the tanker be able to pump it out?

Usually yes, if the height difference is not too great and the hose is long enough. Give us the distance and the approximate height difference, and before the trip we will tell you whether a different solution is needed.

Can I get support for connecting to the mains sewer in Ikšķile?

As of 30.10.2026 we found no programme in force in Ogre Municipality. The connection pipe is built at your own expense.
