We pump out septic tanks, holding tanks and dry toilets in garden communities in Riga and the Riga region, including for several neighbours in one trip. Price: from €75 for up to 4 m³. Send a request with the community's name and the plot number.
What is different in a garden community
- Lanes: narrow gravel tracks, overgrown verges, few places to turn around. We choose the truck according to the width of the lane and the volume of the tank.
- Gates and barriers: in many communities, entry is by code or remote control. In your request, say how to get in.
- Heavy vehicle restrictions: in some communities, the board restricts heavy vehicles on the lanes during the spring thaw. Check this before you send a request.
- Plots without an address: some plots only have the community's name and a number. Also give the cadastral number or a pin on a map. This is needed to find the plot and to fill in the document correctly.
What tanks garden houses have
Garden houses most often have one of three systems: a small septic tank made of concrete rings, a plastic holding tank, or a dry toilet with a pit. Many houses were originally built for the summer season but are now lived in all year round. Water use has gone up, but the tank has stayed the same, so it fills up faster than it used to.
The building code allows sealed holding tanks emptied by truck for seasonal homes and detached houses in areas where a mains sewer is planned but not yet built. If a tank isn't watertight and doesn't fill up for years, that isn't a saving; it's a problem. Read about this on the holding tank pumping page.
LBN 223-15 (Cabinet Regulation No. 327), point 152: in municipal development areas where a mains sewer is planned but not installed, sealed holding tanks emptied by truck may be built for seasonally used residential buildings and detached residential buildings. Cabinet Regulation No. 384, point 9.1: the document states the service address, the volume, the date and the pumping contractor's details; it is kept for at least two years. A joint request for neighbours
If several plots in the same community book for the same day, the truck makes one trip, and the travel kilometres don't have to be paid by each plot separately. That's why a joint request usually works out cheaper. The request can be sent by one person or by the board on behalf of everyone.
- In the list, give each plot's number, tank type and approximate volume.
- Each owner receives their own document with their plot's address and the volume removed, because the rules require a document for the specific address, not for the whole community.
- If any plot will be locked, mark it in advance so the truck doesn't make a wasted trip.
When it's best to pump
In autumn, before the frost and before the house is shut up for the winter: a full tank can freeze in winter, and frozen contents can't be pumped. In spring, pumping is only possible once the lanes have dried out and the board has lifted the weight restrictions. In midsummer, when there are more guests and more watering, holding tanks fill up faster.
Registration applies to garden houses too
The national rules on decentralised sewage systems don't single out garden houses: a septic tank or holding tank in a garden community must be registered with the municipality in the same way as at a private house, and the pumping documents must be kept. For how to register the system in your municipality, see registering a decentralised sewage system.
Cabinet Regulation No. 384, point 15.1: the owner submits a registration application to the register holder; point 15.2: changes are reported within a month. Riga City Council Binding Regulations No. 66 apply to all decentralised systems in Riga's administrative territory (point 1.1). Sources: likumi.lv, checked on 30 October 2026.
How much septic tank pumping costs in a garden community
Each plot's pumping is charged by volume: up to 4 m³ from €75, up to 6 m³ from €90. Outside Riga we add a travel charge of about €1 per kilometre. In a joint request, this charge can be split between the plots. The price depends on the distance from the lane to the tank, the thick contents of a dry toilet and whether the truck can drive right up to the plot. We tell you the exact price for each plot before the work starts.
