The neighbourhood lies on Riga's western edge by the forest, the airport and the Mārupe boundary, and the street network here is sparser than in the middle of the city. At the same time, Beberbeķi is among the neighbourhoods where Riga pays increased co-financing for connections to the networks built in phases 5 and 6 of the Cohesion Fund project. We pump out and service existing plants, install new ones where there is no network, and build connection pipes up to the connection point.
The first question: is the new network next to your plot
There is no single solution for every house in Beberbeķi. If a connection pipe or control manhole is already at your boundary, connecting is especially worthwhile right now. If the house is at the edge of the forest or far from the new pipe, a septic tank or biological treatment plant will be needed for a long time yet.
What is next to your property will be confirmed by Rīgas ūdens (Riga's water utility), which also issues the technical conditions. With those, we can work out the length and fall of the connection pipe and whether a pump station is needed.
€1,800 for a connection: work must be done by 31 December 2026
| Condition | What is set |
|---|---|
| For whom | Connections to the networks of Cohesion Fund phases 5 and 6: Beberbeķi, Berģi, Imanta, Teika, Ziepniekkalns |
| Construction work | €1,800, or 100% for certain groups of people |
| Design | Support in set amounts |
| Construction completed | By 31.12.2026 |
| Application to Rīgas ūdens | By 01.04.2027 |
The construction deadline is 31 December 2026. You can't build without the technical conditions from Rīgas ūdens and the connection pipe documents, so first check what stage your documents are at. Once they are ready, we can also dig in November and December, as long as the ground has not frozen deep.

If you stay with your own plant: forest, roots and soft roads
On a forest plot, tree roots seek out moisture and can push into leaky pipe joints and the seams between concrete rings. If a septic tank starts filling faster or the outlet clogs, we inspect the inlet and outlet pipes after pumping. We place a new tank some distance away from large trees.
A vacuum tanker is heavy, and it won't drive along a soft forest track or across a lawn after rain. If the lid is deep in the garden, give the distance from the street; then we work with a longer hose from a hard surface.
A BIO plant needs an uninterrupted power supply for the compressor and maintenance on the schedule set by the manufacturer, while septic tank sludge in Riga must be removed at least once a year. If the plant has been without power for a long time after a storm, check afterwards that the compressor is running again and that there is no smell.
If you will connect later: what to take into account now
If the old septic tank has to be replaced now but the network will reach your boundary later, plan it so that the next step is cheap. Place the house outlet and the new tank on the street side, so that later the connection pipe to the control manhole is short and straight.
If the connection pipe is already at the boundary, there is no point in buying a large drain field or an expensive plant: a connection with co-financing can pay for itself faster than a new system that has to be serviced every year. Before deciding, compare both estimates; we can prepare both.
The Mārupe boundary: whichever municipality, its rules
Beberbeķi borders Mārupe Municipality, and neighbouring houses can belong to different municipalities. In Riga, the register is kept by the Housing and Environment Department, and one removal of septic tank sludge a year is enough. In Mārupe Municipality, the register is kept by the municipality's Development and Construction Department, and a septic tank must be emptied at least twice a year (once, if the household's water consumption is less than 40 m³ a year).
Which municipality a property belongs to can be seen from the address. Follow that municipality's rules and register the system there too. About the Mārupe side: Mārupe.
