On the south-eastern edge of Riga, warehouses, retail, manufacturing, car repair shops and houses with gardens sit side by side, with large, sparsely built-up areas between them. For homes, we pump out, install and maintain septic tanks and BIO plants; for businesses, we service domestic holding tanks and treatment plants.
Detached houses on the Daugava side
Near the Daugava, the groundwater level can change with the river level and the season. This decides whether a drain field can be built after the septic tank, or whether it's better to choose a biological treatment plant, which treats the water more thoroughly and needs a smaller area for the outlet.
Before making an offer, we look at the soil in a test pit and ask how many people live in the house and whether it is occupied all year. A new house on an empty plot
Rumbula still has large, sparsely built-up areas, and in a new build it is worth planning the sewerage before the landscaping. First we decide where the tank or plant will go, where the outlet will run and how the truck will reach the lid; only then do the paving, the fence and the trees go in.
In Riga, a new system is registered within a month after it is built or put into service, so keep the technical passport and the construction diagram right from the start. More about the order of work: sewerage for a new build.
Warehouses, shops and car repair shops
A warehouse or workshop with a few staff produces little wastewater, but it arises every working day. If there is no connection, the choice is between a holding tank that is emptied when full and a treatment plant for a business. A holding tank is cheaper to install, but a BIO plant can be cheaper to run if water consumption is high.
Car repair shops and car washes produce not only domestic wastewater but also water containing oil, sand and detergents. This is not domestic wastewater, and we don't take it away together with toilet contents. Holding tank emptying frequency for a business
In Riga, the minimum emptying frequency for a holding tank is calculated from water consumption: the annual consumption on the meter (excluding water used for watering) divided by the tank volume. For example, if the meter shows 48 m³ a year and the tank is 8 m³, it must be emptied at least six times a year.
If the tank fills more slowly than the meter shows, it is most likely not sealed; if faster, rainwater or groundwater is getting in. In both cases, it is worth inspecting it after pumping. Every year by 1 May, a declaration on the volume removed in the previous year is submitted to the Riga Housing and Environment Department.

Maskavas iela, the A6 and the railway
Rumbula is linked to the city by Maskavas iela and the A6, so access for a large truck is usually good. Level crossings and heavy traffic affect the timing, not the price: Rumbula is Riga, and we don't charge for kilometres.
In sparsely built-up places, a house or warehouse can be far from the tarmac. State whether the access road can take a truck and how many metres it is from there to the lid.
The Riga side and the municipality side
Rumbula is on the edge of the city, and some neighbouring properties are already in a Riga region municipality. In Riga, a septic tank must be emptied at least once a year, the system is registered with the Riga Housing and Environment Department, and the declaration must be submitted by 1 May. Whether the tank serves a house or a warehouse, in Riga it may only be pumped out by a pumping contractor listed in the Department's register. Municipalities have their own rules: for example, in nearby Salaspils Municipality the register is kept by Valgums-S, and the previous year's pumping documents must be submitted by 1 March.
